What is a living Eulogy or Funeral?  

A living eulogy is a meaningful way to honor our love and respect for someone who has significantly impacted our lives, be it as a partner, family member, friend, or colleague. This tribute is a heartfelt speech or ceremony celebrating a living person and their life. Often, the individual may be approaching the end of their life due to age or illness, and they or their loved ones wish to express how much they mean to those around them before they depart.  

It could be that a beloved family member is aging, and you, alongside friends and family, want to show your love and gratitude while they are still with us, rather than waiting until after their passing. Alternatively, the individual may want to compose their own living eulogy to have a say in what is shared about them, recount their story, and take the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings while they can.  

Working together, as a funeral celebrant, I will meet with you to listen and collaborate with you (should you wish to write your own living eulogy) and any family or friends you want to involve in the ceremony. Together, we will create a eulogy or ceremony that truly reflects your wishes and memories. The funeral or memorial will be built on your shared anecdotes and stories. I will assist in writing as much of the ceremony as you desire, while also helping you consider or select readings, poems, music, and tributes.  

Digital and long-distance ceremonies have become increasingly accessible thanks to today’s technology, allowing you to include family and friends who may live far away or are unable to attend the ceremony for any reason. I am more than happy to discuss how we can utilize technology effectively, ensuring your ceremony is accessible for everyone involved.  

Fees for my services as a funeral celebrant include a standard fee of £250 for a Living Eulogy (ceremony script). If you would like my assistance in creating a living funeral or similar service, we can agree on any additional fees to reflect the work and time required. This approach can also be adapted for naming ceremonies or wedding ceremonies, ensuring a personalized and meaningful experience.
